Digital Village originated through a handful of local businessfolk who were frustrated by the lack of proper internet infrastructure along the Garden Route. The absence of phone lines to rural homes and businesses, the prohibitive cost of internet access and the slow speeds frustrated them. They realised that if they did not make a plan themselves to address the ever-widening digital divide between the have’s and the have not’s then nobody would.

And so, Digital Village was born by a group of private companies and individuals who wanted to give their communities access to the kind of internet they had always dreamed about for their own families.

Now, in partnership with Herotel, Digital Village has a new sponsor and will expand its footprint right across South Africa. Like Herotel, we see a future where everyone is connected to fast, reliable and affordable internet.
